June 30 —

On a cooler day, I spreaded a blanket on the grass in our new backyard and the three of us would take our activities outdoors.

I look up and noticed the canopy of this tall oak tree we have that gives us shelter from the blazing sun.

June has been a month of transition for me. I sometimes drive on the roads around town and still think that this is no difference than the Midwest. Other times when I am lost and looking for ways home I realized that this is an unfamiliar place that I have to get used to.

Either way, I am glad that this opportunity has knocked on our door. We are opened to new experiences but I think my connection to the Midwest will always be there, with my mom and brothers and those childhood memories of us growing up in the Twin Cities.
